Welcome! I am Matt Towner, a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Wake Forest University. I hold an undergraduate degree in accounting and bring an analytical and thoughtful perspective to my work as I transition into the counseling profession. My goal is to create a supportive, collaborative therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to work toward meaningful change.
I am particularly interested in working with diverse populations, especially adults and adolescents experiencing substance use concerns, anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. In my clinical work, I rely primarily on evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), while also incorporating person-centered principles, mindfulness-based interventions, and motivational interviewing to support each client’s unique needs.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors. Some of my hobbies include rock climbing, playing pickleball, and playing basketball. I am also a big fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and enjoy following the team throughout the season.
